Yellowcard on Vinyl

This is very good news for Yellowcard and vinyl record fans alike!

According to Yellowcard's official site and Absolutpunk.net, the band has announced that they will release The Underdog EP, Ocean Avenue, Lights and Sounds and Paper Walls on vinyl records! The records will be released on September 18th, but people can can place pre-orders on August 2nd.

These will be great to add to my collection. I can't wait to hear the sounds of Mackin's violin on vinyl!

On a side note, their latest album When You Are Through Thinking, Say Yes is currently out on vinyl right now. Word is that they are in limited edition colors.

Say Yes To Positive Music

After a two year hiatus, Yellowcard returns to the music scene with their seventh album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes. After listening to it, I can truly say that this is one of most positive listening experiences I've had in a long time.

Immediately into the first track, “The Sound of You and Me”, you can hear the sonic burst of Sean Mackin’s violin, which sends  the track soaring. The versatility in Mackin’s instrument has always given Yellowcard’s music a classic, but edgy feel to it. This track is a clear indication of that and the momentum continues throughout the album with notable rockers such as “With You Around”, “Soundtrack” and of course, the lead off single, “For You, And Your Denial”. To add to these high energy rock songs, Yellowcard also crafted some amazing ballads, “Hang You Up” and “Sing For Me”. They still carry the same heartfelt emotion as the rest of the songs, but in a different tempo. What’s amazing is that even though they songs are played at a different rhythm than the rest of the album, they don’t affect the album’s cohesiveness.

What I really enjoy about the album most is the positive feeling I felt from listening to it. Whether Ryan Key is singing about loss (“The Sound of You and Me”, “Hang Me Up”) or love (“Sing For Me”, “See Me Smiling”), his ability to convey in emotion in an uplifting manner is uncanny. It is the kind of of music that the listener can easily connect with. Their ability to inspire hope into their listeners is something truly special and I'm grateful that Yellowcard can offer that in their music.

From start to finish, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes is solid rock album that offers a message of hope and positivity that can inspire those who listen to it. It is no surprise that Yellowcard is back in full force and has recorded their best work to date.

Welcome Back, Boys!

A few weeks ago, Absolutepunk has informed that Yellowcard has returned from their two-year hiatus. The band has also announced that they currently working on a new record, their first since 2007's Paper Walls. I was pleased to hear the good news especially since Yellowcard was one of my favorite bands during my college years. I first saw them back in 2004 during Surfest where they were one of the featured bands along with New Found Glory, Rise Against and many others. What made me interested in the band was their use of the violin in their sound. I understand that many bands have utilized the classical instrument in their respective music, but not many punk bands are able to do this. Yellowcard was the main exception. Sean Mackin, the violinist of the band, has truly demonstrated the instrument's versatility and dexterity. Combining the grace of the violin along with rich punk melodies and catchy hooks, Yellowcard has truly established themselves as one of the leading forerunners in pop punk.

 
Recently , the guys had an acoustic performance at a Hot Topic store (location unknown). They did not play any new songs, but it was so great to see them playing again. Check out the performances below especially their acoustic rendition of "Rough Landing, Holly".

So dust off your violins, folks. Yellowcard is back!
