Words cannot describe the pain and loss that many people (including myself) felt over the loss of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse. She was an influential force that sparked the reemergence of soul music and paved way for many female artists like herself to thrive in the music scene. Despite her off stage antics and behavior, she should remembered for the influence that she has brought onto music. It is difficult to admit that she is not longer with us, but her memory will live through the music she has created. Our hearts and condolences go out to her family, friends and all of our beloved fans. She will be missed.

Rock and Soul
A few months ago, we wrote an entry about a video that Patrick Stump posted about what he was cooking up in the recording studio. The video only contains clips of him playing a variety of instruments that when played together composed of a song. His new music is much different from his previous gig with Fall Out Boy and this sparked curiosity among many people. Still at that time, it was premature to determine what Mr. Stump has up his sleeve.
Finally, in February of this year, Patrick Stump dropped his long-awaited EP Truant Wave
. According to the man himself, his goal was to gradually get people especially his fans to get comfortable with the music. I had the privilege to grace my ears with his new project and to be quite frank with you, I was not surprised with his new direction he was going for.
For those that don't know, Patrick Stump is a fan of Prince. Therefore, this indicates he has a bit of soul into his music palette. Along with soul, Patrick Stump dabbles in other genres such as funk, pop and of course, rock. A a result, Truant Wave
is a highly diverse canvas of groovy melodies and catchy lyricism. With only 6 tracks, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Patrick Stump can bring to the table.
So far no date has been announced for the release of his debut Art Punk. We are anxiously waiting...

Chamber Music
Chamber Music is special type of classical music that is known for its fervent sense of intimacy. It is often known as “the music of friends”. When listening to Esperanza Spalding, it is clear that she has mastered the art of intimacy.
Chamber Music Society
is stunning treat to the ears. It is a beautiful collage of blues, jazz and classical music that is both intriguing and welcoming to listen to. With each strum on the bass (her favorite instrument) and with every key played on the piano, you can also feel the music notes soothing your soul. Perhaps, this is why her music gives a strong sense of intimacy. Because the record feels so comfortable, it is not difficult for the listener to feel close to the music. However, the strongest weapon on her arsenal is her captivating voice. Like a music hummingbird she is, she is sweet and delightful with every lyric she sings and can easily win your heart with every breath. Check out my favorite song on the record, "Apple Blossom" which is lovely duet featuring world renowned Brazilian musician Milton Nascimento.
Future Phonograph would like to say congratulations to the lovely Esperanza Spalding for winning Best New Artist at the Grammy’s. It is clear that her talent cannot be measured in Grammy’s and platinum records. Sometimes the best kinds of music are the ones that feel closest to your heart. Espreanza Spalding is no exception. As a special bonus, here is the Tiny Desk Concert she did for NPR music. Enjoy!

Mr. Stump In The Studio
I just saw this the other day and I thought it was pretty cool. Patrick Stump, lead singer and guitarist of Fall Out Boy and also my favorite member of the band, happens to be cooking up something in the studio. He is currently in the process of working on a solo record. So far there has been no indication of when the record will be released or if there is any place where you can preview the material. Instead, Mr. Stump provided us a nifty and awesome video of himself playing music in the studio. Possible teaser of the new record? Who knows? But all I can say is that after watching and listening to the video is that I am pumped to see hear Patrick Stump's brand new material. In the mean time, check out the video below.
